Cut to Versova Social Boston: a pop-up series by Altamash Gaziyani (thatβs me!) rooted in bringing South Asian flavors to life in cocktails, food, and community experiences across Boston, hand in hand with some of your favorite bars around town. The masalas are ground by hand, the drinks always come with snacks, the memories flow freely, and the doors are open to all; I canβt wait to see you at the next one.

whatβs the theme
With Desi Pride, Bakri Eid, and Holi all behind us, weβre setting our sights forward to celebrating Raksha Bandhan this August, supported by Mathilde, a festival that honors chosen and familial siblinghood via the tradition of tying a βrakhiβ (a threaded talisman / amulet) around the wrist of a loved one. Weβll be embarking on a rakhi making workshop in addition to having food and drink available!

Weβll be at Jadu Boston in Brookline, a coffee shop and wine bar that draws inspiration from gathering spots around the globe β the chai stalls of Mumbai, languid seaside lunches in Beirut, the tapas bars of Barcelona, and Bostonβs very own Centre Street

VSB this year for me is about picking meaningful opportunities for desi folks, QPOC folks, and Bostonians to gather together and let their accents fall, let their bodies move, let their heads bobble, and their laughter and joy take space, and their memories flow.
Channeling this through celebrating festivals that resonated with me throughout my childhood and that bridged religious, class-based, and sociopolitical gaps felt instinctively like the best way to do this, and Iβm so excited I get to this year π₯°
Iβm working with some of the loveliest, most talented, and truly community-minded immigrants, queers, vendors, organizations, and bar humans to make it all happen. I canβt wait to tell you more about what weβll be doing at each of these events, but for now, here are some dates to hold in your calendars π«Άπ½
